It’s March.
With the change of seasons, pollen, and the busy end of the fiscal year, this can be a particularly tiring time of year.
Every year, I tell myself, “In March, just staying alive is enough!” 😂
The other day, my husband came home very late after a farewell party at work.
When you go out drinking, alcohol and food can put a strain on your digestive system, and you also end up losing sleep.
Sure enough, he seemed to still be feeling tired the next day.
That’s when I thought:
“Warm konjac!”
(Doraemon-style! 😂)
That night, before bed, I wrapped a warmed piece of konjac in a towel and placed it over the liver, which had been working hard to process the alcohol.
After about 20 minutes, I moved it to the area around the navel and left it there for another 20 minutes or so.
He found it so relaxing that he soon fell asleep, breathing softly. 😂
The next morning, he seemed to be feeling remarkably good.
I do this occasionally myself, too, and it feels absolutely wonderful. I always feel refreshed afterward.
It feels as though circulation throughout my body improves and the things that make me feel tired are being flushed away.
Basically, you boil a piece of konjac starting in cold water, wrap it in towels, and place it directly against your body.
The warmth gradually sinks deep into your body.
Boil the konjac for about 10 minutes after the water comes to a boil.
I recommend using two or three relatively thick towels so that the konjac isn’t too hot when you place it against your skin.
Some of the areas where you can place the warm konjac include:
- The liver (the right side of the abdomen)
- The abdomen
- The tanden (the area below the navel)
- The kidneys (on the lower back, on either side of the spine)
If you’re generally healthy, you can try about 30 minutes on two areas.
For people who are feeling weak, older adults, or children, it may be better to start with about 10 minutes on two areas.
I actually overdid it myself for a while and ended up feeling tired, so it’s important not to overdo it.
By the way, you can do this with just one piece of konjac.
If you have two pieces, you can warm the liver and tanden at the same time, or lie on your stomach and warm both kidneys at once.
The spleen is located on the left side of the body, around the level of the elbow.
Apparently, the spleen can become hot when you’re tired, so cooling it for about 10 minutes is said to be helpful.
Wrapping a chilled piece of konjac in a towel and placing it there feels wonderfully soothing.
You can go all out and do the liver, tanden, kidneys, and spleen as a full-body routine, but even using one piece of konjac just on your abdomen—or on your abdomen and back—can be a lovely way to relax.
However, it seems better to avoid doing this immediately before or after eating or taking a bath.
So, why not give it a try whenever it fits into your own routine? ♪
Oh, and the soles of your feet feel pretty amazing, too!
I’m sure it’ll make for an absolutely blissful little relaxation session. 🍀
