Minimalist Tanu
Born in 1986 and based in Tokyo, Japan, Tanu lives with her husband.
From an early age, she had a deep love for animals, plants, and nature, and went on to study biology at university.
Inspired by Rachel Carson, she dreamed of becoming a researcher.
While conducting research on genetics, she developed pustulosis palmaris et plantaris at the age of 24.
She was later diagnosed with multiple chemical sensitivity, and at one point, her condition became so severe that even getting out of bed was difficult.
When she developed bronchitis, she began reducing her belongings to minimize dust in her home.
This led her to discover that having fewer possessions could make both her mind and body feel lighter.
As her lifestyle became increasingly simple, she gradually came to be known for living a minimalist lifestyle.
While trying various treatments, she began to feel that she needed to restore her health from the inside out.
That was when she discovered natural healing approaches.
Having spent years trying hard to heal herself through her own efforts, she found a sense of relief when she realized that perhaps all she needed to do was simply “return to nature.”
For the first time, she experienced what it felt like to let go of the tension she had been carrying and feel at ease.
Even so, she would sometimes find herself becoming tense and overly serious again without realizing it.
She cared so deeply about getting better that her mind would become rigid, and ironically, this would sometimes lead to feeling physically unwell again.
As she repeated this cycle, she began to realize just how deeply the mind can affect the body.
This sparked a growing interest in how our mindset and the way we approach life can influence our well-being.
In 2024, she left the chemical company where she had worked for 12 years.
The following year, in 2025, she started her own business as a sole proprietor.
As of 2026, she shares her experiences and ideas centered around minimalism, simple living, a nature-connected approach to food, clothing, and home, ways to care for both mind and body, and the many things we can “let go of” throughout life.
She also offers one-on-one consultations and online courses.
She hopes that her own experiences can provide even a small hint or source of inspiration for people who are struggling with physical or emotional challenges.
