How to Stop Overeating Sweets: 3 Habits I Changed

Eating something sweet makes me happy.

Especially when I’m tired, I often find myself craving sweets.

However, at one point, I noticed that eating too many sweets could make me feel sluggish, cause my skin to break out, and even make my gums bleed.

I also found that I was more likely to feel irritated or down.

So, I try not to make sweets a regular part of my diet or eat too much of them.

Today, I’d like to share three things I do to help prevent myself from overeating sweets!

I think these tips can also help prevent overeating in general, so I hope you find them useful. ♪

1. Eat three proper meals a day

In the end, this is probably the most important thing.

I make sure to eat rice as my main staple, along with seasonal vegetables and fish, meat, or beans to get plenty of vitamins, minerals, and protein.

Eating proper meals helps prevent me from reaching for sweets because of hunger or cravings caused by an unbalanced diet.

In particular, women may sometimes crave sweets when they are lacking minerals such as iron.

It may be a good idea to consciously include foods that are rich in iron and minerals, such as clams, oysters, and leafy greens.

Eating three proper meals also helps keep my daily routine balanced, which in turn helps me feel more balanced emotionally and may prevent overeating.

If I really want something sweet, I find that having it after lunch is the easiest on my body.

I think this may be because I can use the energy during the rest of the afternoon, and eating sweets after a meal may help avoid sudden ups and downs in blood sugar levels.

When I eat sweets as a snack between meals, I sometimes feel like the sudden changes in blood sugar make my emotions more up and down.

So, I think it’s best to think of sweets as a little extra after lunch!

2. Get some light exercise

One thing I find interesting is that light exercise can actually reduce my appetite.

I’ve experienced this many times.

Even when I think, “I’m hungry!” the feeling sometimes goes away after I exercise.

For the past few years, I’ve been doing about 10 minutes of light strength training and aerobic exercise while following a YouTube workout called “The Easiest Strength & Aerobic Workout in the World” by Nakayama Kinnikun (Nakayama Kinnikun is a Japanese comedian and fitness personality known for his passion for exercise and healthy living.).

After doing this workout, my neck, shoulders, and lower back feel much lighter.

It makes me think that using our bodies may actually be the best kind of maintenance for them.

3. Find healthy ways to relieve stress

Actually, this might be the most important one.

Of course, I mean ways other than overeating and binge eating!

Looking back at my own habits, I realize that I’m most likely to reach for sweets or overeat when I’m feeling stressed.

When that happens, I simply go outside and walk.

Having a chat with a good friend is also a great way to refresh myself.

I think it’s important to find things that make you happy and release stress in a healthy way.

One thing I try to keep in mind is to choose stress-relieving activities that make my body feel good.

Going for a walk, exercising, and doing other things that make my body happy are my favorite ways to unwind.

I’d like to have more fun and enjoyable moments by learning to live comfortably with both sweets and stress♪
