🌿 Align the Body Through the Mind, and the Mind Through the Body
The mind and body are deeply connected.
If you want to bring your body into balance, start with your mind.
If you want to bring your mind into balance, start with your body.
To stay healthy and feel good every day,
I believe it’s essential to take care of the basics of life—clothing, food, and shelter.
Here, I’d like to share the simple practices I’ve discovered through trial and error
that help lighten both body and mind.
🌿 Nature as a Guide
When I first tried to improve my daily life,
I felt overwhelmed by the sheer amount of modern information and choices.
In fact, I was completely lost.
What helped me find direction was a simple idea:
choose what is more natural.
While trying various treatments to heal my body,
I came to feel that true healing requires addressing things at a fundamental level.
That’s when I encountered natural healing.
As the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates once said,
“If we are not in harmony with nature, we become ill.”
In other words, to restore our health, we return to nature.
But having lived deeply immersed in modern society,
I had lost sight of what “natural” really meant.
What helped me was observing nature
and learning from traditional wisdom.
I began paying attention to the changing seasons,
and to the lives of plants and animals.
At the same time, I studied the knowledge passed down through generations
and gradually incorporated it into my life.
There, I discovered a deeper truth about living
and a kind of richness I had never noticed before.
🌿 There Is Always Something You Can Do
So what does my life actually look like?
I’m not living like a hermit in the mountains, growing everything myself.
Not at all—I live in a city apartment.
But even here, I walk in the morning sunlight,
notice the plants and insects along the road,
watch the moon from my window,
make pickled plums and dried persimmons on my balcony,
and cook seasonal meals.
No matter where you are,
there is always something you can do.
Living in a city also has its advantages—
access to tools, resources, and information.
If you feel inspired to try something, you can start right away.
Many things don’t require much time or money.
With a bit of creativity and wisdom,
life becomes surprisingly manageable.
🌿 Simplicity Is Enough
I used to think clothing, food, and shelter were trivial.
Housework felt like a burden.
I believed that academic and professional success
were far more meaningful.
And of course, those things are valuable.
But when my health broke down and I couldn’t do anything,
I realized that daily life is the foundation of everything.
I spent many days thinking about how to simplify my life
while dealing with physical discomfort.
What I discovered was this:
life at home can be much simpler than we think.
Perhaps it felt difficult because I was overcomplicating things.
And because I simply had too many possessions.
When I reduced what I owned, everything became easier.
When it’s easy, it becomes enjoyable.
When it’s enjoyable, you can continue.
And that creates a positive cycle.
Before I knew it, I had become a minimalist who truly enjoys daily life.
“By enjoying the basics of life, my body and mind became lighter”—
that’s the ideal.
The key is to keep things simple.
You’ll be surprised how much easier life becomes.
🌿 Key Points for Simple Living
Here are some simple guidelines for clothing, food, and shelter:
Clothing
- Choose natural materials as much as possible
- Avoid synthetic detergents and fabric softeners
Food
- Choose local and fresh foods as much as possible
- Avoid processed foods, pesticides, and additives when possible
Living Space
- Choose environments with clean air whenever possible
- Reduce possessions and keep things simple
The key phrase is: “as much as possible.”
Don’t aim for perfection.
Do what you can, within your current circumstances.
What matters most is consistency—
not trying to do everything at once.
(Though I’ve failed at this many times myself. 😊)
Start with just 1%.
What matters is to keep going.
🌿 Before and After
By improving my daily life,
my body and mind became significantly lighter.
With fewer possessions, there was less dust,
and my allergies improved.
Other unexpected changes followed.
My body naturally became more balanced,
and I was able to maintain my ideal weight without effort.
I rarely catch colds anymore.
My skin improved, with fewer spots and dullness.
Even my hair became healthier and regained its shine.
Of course, I’ve made many mistakes along the way.
But failure is natural.
Just as you can’t master a language or instrument in a day,
learning how to live well also takes practice.
Failure leads to growth.
Without it, there is no progress.
Step by step—just 1% at a time—
it builds into something powerful.
And to continue, the most important thing is to enjoy the process.
What feels enjoyable is different for everyone.
So ask yourself:
What feels good? What feels right?
Through your daily life, you’ll gradually discover
what your heart truly wants.
Your daily habits shape your body and mind—
and ultimately, your life.
This is not an exaggeration. I’ve experienced it myself.
